Dr Sinead Barry is a specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist who is passionate about women’s health and wellbeing. She offers care to women in early pregnancy and women with miscarriage and recurrent miscarriage as well as the management of gynaecological problems such as menstrual irregularities, abnormal pap smears, vulval disorders, pelvic pain and menopause.

Sinead has a special interest in the sensitive nature of gynaecological problems and in optimising life after the diagnosis of gynaecological cancers. Sinead has trained at obstetric, gynaecology and gynaecological oncology tertiary facilities and is well placed to look after women with complex disease.

During her training Sinead was fortunate to train under various gynaecological oncology subspecialists obtaining advanced surgical skills. She also performs minor surgery for heavy menstrual bleeding such as endometrial ablation and insertion of IUD (Mirena). She is an experienced Colposcopist and can treat confirmed abnormal cervical screening tests (formally known as pap smear) with a LLETZ procedure. She is an experienced Vulvoscopist and has a special interest in the management of vulval disorders. Sinead is the lead Colposcopist and Vulvoscopist at the Queen Elizabeth II Jubliee Hospital Brisbane.

Sinead has a particular interest in menopause, in particular early menopause caused by cancer treatment. She can offer both hormonal and nonhormonal options to treat menopause.

Sinead feels it is important to keep up to date by attending conferences and teaching junior doctors and medical students. She is a member of the Australasian Gynaecological Endoscopy and Surgery Society and The Australian Menopause Society. Sinead is currently a Betty McGrath Research fellow at Mater Hospital Brisbane and has been awarded a large grant to work on ovarian cancer treatments.
